China Passport — 33×48 mm (390×567 px)

China passport photo specifications

A standard Chinese passport photo is 33×48 mm — slightly narrower than the common 35×45 European format. Digital files are typically prepared around that proportion at 300 DPI on a pure white background, with the face clearly centered and hair not covering the eyes.

Hats, sunglasses and heavy accessories are not accepted. Wear clothing that contrasts with white so the shoulders remain visible. The expression should be natural and front-facing, without an exaggerated smile.

Why size accuracy matters

Using a generic 35×45 mm European template for a China passport submission is a common mistake and can cause counter rejections. Always select the China Passport format so width, height and head placement match local expectations.

Upload your portrait in PhotoGov, choose China Passport, and download a white-background photo cropped to 33×48 mm for application or printing.

Practical tips

• Comb hair away from the forehead and eyes before shooting.
• Sit or stand upright; do not lean toward the phone.
• Avoid strong side light that darkens one half of the face.
• Double-check the downloaded size before submitting.

Common rejection reasons

• Incorrect 35×45 mm crop instead of 33×48 mm
• Grey or coloured background
• Hair covering eyebrows or eyes
• Overexposed white clothing blending into the background
